“Irish Little Boy” from Titanic, Now 25, Reveals He Still Receives Royalty Payments from the 1997 Film!

Who doesn’t remember James Cameron’s Titanic? There are people still fighting about whether there was enough space on the door for Jack!

(It’s a silly debate though, because, clearly there was enough space. Jack didn’t have to die. Rose should have checked her priorities.)

The incredibly moving love story drowned with the ship, but not before it pulled hundreds of other passengers with it. Those unlucky ones included the aptly named “Irish little boy” who suffered the same watery fate.

He’d been one of the third-class passengers who died along with his mother and sister. His adorable young face was seen shocked as the ship hit the giant iceberg.

In the movie, Reece Thompson played the little boy. He’s 25 years old now and is thriving, thank you very much!

He also still receives residual checks from the old movie franchise!

Reece earned around $30,000 in total for his singular, brief appearance! He had a small role but not much else.

However, he still receives quarterly residual checks each year! These have shrunk as the years have gone by, but are still a decent amount.

He earns around $200 to $300 per year. It may seem like a small amount, but it’s nothing to scoff at, considering it’s from a project that happened more than two decades ago.

Reece’s history with Titanic is one of sheer luck. He won a contest when he was five years old and gained an entertainment agent.

The agent told his mother that she could pick between two roles for young Reece: an appearance in an ad for a petrol station or an audition for a role in ‘a major motion picture’.

His mother chose the movie – and she obviously made the right choice. Titanic became the second highest grossing movie of all time, besides Avatar.

Business Insider recently spoke to Reece, who is now the digital marketing director at the Brian Head Resort in Utah. The child-actor spoke about the movie’s success.

“It turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in history, so it’s pretty bizarre in retrospect,” he said.

“My mom was like: ‘Let’s just do it. It’ll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we’ll see it.’ Obviously, it ended up exploding, so that wasn’t a bad decision on her part, that’s for sure.”

He is still surprised about his residual checks because his role was quite a while ago!

“It’s weird because it’s not present in my mind anymore,” he said.

“It’s not like, ‘Oh, when am I going to get a new Titanic check?’ When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100.'”
