Sir Elton John has reportedly decided to bis his goodbye to touring and performances after a prolific career of five decades!
The Rocket Man hitmaker is expected to give an official statement on his retirement at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Mirror reported that the 70-year-old musician has decided to bow out from stage performances because of his health problems. Last year, Elton spent two days in intensive care and twelve days in the hospital after getting an unusual bacterial infection during his tour of South America.
After the incident, Sir Elton said he could have ‘easily died’ after the severe illness.
He said: “I knew I was sick but I didn’t know I had such a dangerous thing inside of me until I had a scan, which was after nine shows, 24 flights and a summer ball.”
Last year, in March, Sir Elton revealed that he is planning to make a decision about his touring within six months. He said that he wants to spend more time with his husband, David Furnish, and two sons, Zachary and Elijah.
Talking about his plans of retiring, he said:
“There will be a decision made in the next six months, probably. I will want to stop touring – not playing, but touring. 70 isn’t 60, it’s not 50. I want to spend time with my boys.”
The Candle in the Wind singer also announced 27 new performances of The Million Dollar Piano between October 2017 and March 2018 before the illness struck him.
The 70-year-old super star will be winding up the last performance of his Vegas Show, The Million Dollar Piano, on 19th May, 2018. Elton John has performed The Million Dollar Piano for more than 200 times!

He has contributed a lot to the music industry; he has fifty top 40 hits, as well as seven consecutive No.1 US Albums.
In his splendid career, Sir Elton has won five Grammy awards, five Brit awards, and the first Brit Icons in 2013 for his enduring impact on the British culture. He also won the Outstanding Contribution award for his services to the world of music.
