Gerard Butler will now return to promoting his upcoming thriller, Geostorm. The 47-year-old stars as an architect behind an elaborate natural disaster defense system, which sees a series of climate-controlling satellites surrounding Earth, centered around the International Climate Space Station in the film.

However, a malfunction in the system creates a global storm of epic proportions. To overcome the disaster, scientists must band together to save the world from utter destruction. The science fiction is set to hit UK’s theatres this Friday.

Butler has a history of hospitalisations, he revealed last year that he “could barely walk” following injuries sustained while filming the action sequel, London Has Fallen.

The Scottish actor even broke bones in his neck on the set of 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen, and was trapped underwater after being beaten by a succession of waves during shooting of his surfing drama, Chasing Mavericks.

“There are always those risks and they hopefully become stories but when you do an action movie, you sign on for that,” he told the Daily Record in 2013. “You sign up for the fact that you’re going to get a few grazes and a few bruises along the way.”

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Butler revealed that he’s a fan of risky behavior, and even injected himself with bee venom twice!

“I don’t know what I was thinking,” Butler said, noting that he met with his nutritionist after experiencing some painful inflammation. “He goes, ‘check this out! This is probably about 2.3 bee stings.’ And he gives me a shot in the arm.”
