Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have decided to “lovingly separate” after almost 9 years of marriage. The couple issued a joint statement to the public via People and later uploaded it onto their social media accounts.
The statement, which starts out with a positive tone in the pre-amble, goes: “Hey world! So…We have something we would like to share. First off, it feels odd that we have to share this kind of thing with everyone, but it’s a consequence of the lives we’ve chosen to lead, which we also happen to be deeply grateful for. We’re living in an incredible moment in time, but it’s also a time where truth can easily get distorted into “alternative facts” 😉 So we want to share the truth so you know that if you didn’t read it here then it’s most certainly fiction.”
The couple clearly wanted people to hear the news directly from them, hence gave their fans the respect to issue a statement themselves rather than speculate about the reliability of the news.
Hearts broke as the statement continued, “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple.”
Through their statement, the gorgeous couple spoke to fans about how they fell in love many years ago and have had a “magical journey together” but wish to pursue different paths now.
They claimed that they’re still “best friends” that want to “take some space and help each other live the most, joyous, fulfilled lives” possible.
Tatum and Dewan have a daughter together, who will be turning 5 in May. The couple said in their statement that they are still a family and will continue to co-parent Everly with dedication.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan met on the sets of their movie 2006 Step Up, nearly a decade ago. They began dating soon after and exchanged vows in 2009.
The couple was eye-candy together and fans have been devastated by the news. Yet, there were inklings of possible trouble in paradise when Jenna showed up to the annual Vanity Fair Oscars after-party alone. However, she squashed rumours by telling ET that Tatum was babysitting their daughter and “happy to have a night off”.
