The 83-year-old director has been accused of sexual harassment.
During an interview with France 24, the Midnight in Paris director claimed to be the “poster boy” for the #MeToo movement.
Talking about the allegations against himself, Allen explained, “I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses; not one of them has ever complained about me, not a single complaint. I’ve worked with, employed women in the top capacities, in every capacity, for years and we’ve always paid them exactly the equal of men.”
Further adding, “I’ve done everything that the #MeToo movement would love to achieve with everybody.”
When asked whether he should be the poster boy for the movement, he replied, “I should be.”
Woody Allen has been accused of molesting and harassing his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. The allegations first arose in 1992. However, the Manhattan director has denied all the allegations against him, calling them “baseless.”
Allen further said in his interview that he does not care whether people will finance his works. He will still continue to write and direct. Saying, “I couldn’t care less. I’ve never worked in Hollywood. I’ve always worked in New York and it doesn’t matter to me for a second.”
Adding further, “If tomorrow nobody would finance my films and nobody would finance my theater plays or nobody would publish my books. I’d still get up and write because that’s what I do. So I will always work. What happens to it commercially is another matter.”
Recently, Scarlett Johansson made some controversial statements about Woody Allen. She told The Hollywood Reporter, “I love Woody. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
Also adding, “I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. I believe him, and I would work with him any time.”
Woody Allen is currently in a $68 million battle with Amazon.
