'Will and Grace' actress Shelley Morrison Dies at 83
Shelley Morrison was offered to reprise her role as Rosario in the Will and Grace reboot. However, she refused claiming she was retired from acting.

Shelley Morrison died after suffering from heart failure. The actress was best known for playing Rosario Salazar on NBC’s Will and Grace.

Her publicist Lori DeWaal confirmed the news to The Associated Press that Morrison passed away at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The 83-year-old actress was only supposed to appear on one episode of Will and Grace. However, her character gained so much popularity that she ended up appearing in 68 episodes over a course of eight seasons.

Shelley Morrison’s husband Walter Dominguez said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Shelley’s greatest pride as an actress was in playing the indomitable Rosario, in a comedy series that furthered the cause of social equity and fairness for LGBTQ people. She also took pride in portraying a strong, loving yet feisty Latina character.”

Adding further, “She believed that the best way to change hearts and minds was through comedy. The other great joy of her life was her 64-year marriage to her husband, filmmaker Walter Dominguez, and their many family members, including children and grandchildren who were adopted through traditional Native American ceremony.”

Her fellow cast members also paid tribute to the late actress. Eric McCormack who played Will in the sitcom caller Shelley a “beautiful soul & a wonderful actor.”

Debra Messing wrote, “Oh, Shelley… what a loss. Our dear Rosario has passed on. Shelley had a career that spanned decades, but she will always be our dear Rosie. She was a kind soul with a huge heart and always had a smile on her face. All my love to Walter and the entire family.”

Furthermore, Megan Mullally who worked closely with Shelley Morrison on the show also posted a heartfelt tweet. She wrote, “just got a bulletin on my phone that shelley morrison has passed. my heart is heavy. putting shelley, her beloved husband walter & their children in the light. thank you for your friendship & partnership, shell. you accomplished wonderful things in this world. you will be missed.”

While Sean Hayes wrote on Instagram, “Such sad news. Our beloved Shelley Morrison passed away today. She was absolutely hilarious and had the biggest heart. She was a part of our Will and Grace family and will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to her entire family.”
