The actress, however, is not very sad about this news. Hilary Duff stated, “I don’t know if I was as devastated by that.”
Hilary Duff announced the reboot of the Lizzie McGuire reboot last month. The actress appeared at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
The reboot will be a reimagined version of the show. Hilary Duff will reprise her role as Lizzie, a 30-year-old trying to get through life in the city of New York.
Now in an interview with Vulture, the 31-year-old actress has some upsetting news for Lizzie and Gordo shippers.
In the original version of Lizzie McGuire, Duff’s character becomes romantically involved with her best friend Gordo, played by Adam Lamberg. However, now she has revealed that her character will be engaged to someone other than Gordo in the reboot.
Even though fans of the show are upset by the news, Duff said that she was not “as devastated by that.”
Adding further, “I feel like them not being together is what was so good … it’s that one person that you’re like, ‘Was he the one? Is it ever going to be?’ You’re always kind of wondering. We wanted it to hurt everyone a little bit, and it’ll continue to hurt.” She also said that she is hopeful Adam Lamberg will be “involved.”
“We’ve been planning out the season and coming up with what everything looks like, and it’s so important for him to be there for part of it,” Duff concluded.
The announcement of the reboot was made on Hilary Duff’s Instagram. Posting a video on social media, Duff wrote, “SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!”
Further writing, “I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl ♥️…and into her 30’s #bringbackbutterflyclips #lizziemcguire #thisiswhatdreamsaremadeof #lizzieforpresident #DisneyPlus #D23Expo Also, If you needed yet another reason to get Disney+ … the #lizziemcguiremovie will be living there!”
The series does not have a release date yet. However, it will premiere on Disney plus in 2020.
