HBO Max is toying with the idea of an unscripted FRIENDS reunion.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the six main leads are on board. Jennifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, along with creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane might be up for a reunion.
No deals have been signed as of yet, especially since figuring out schedules and timings is a challenge with the 6. However, consideration is definitely being given to the idea.
The cast was previously firm that no scripted reunion would ever take place. They are still firm in this conviction. However, an unscripted reunion is still possible. Recently, Anniston said on The Ellen Show, “Listen, we would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So, we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”
She joked about there being a “huge huge huge movie” as well. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she added, “Something is happening,” she said again. “But we don’t know what that something is.”
The FRIENDS cast has been reuniting more than ever lately, with the cast members showing off their hangouts on social media (and breaking Instagram, in Jennifer Anniston’s case).
The news of a reunion comes as Netflix was outbid by WarnerMedia to keep FRIENDS on its streaming platform. Netflix reportedly paid between $80 and $100 million but was outbid with Warner’s offer of $85 million for the next five years.
HBO Max has not yet commented on the news.
