Colin Farrell has joined the cast of The Batman according to its director Matt Reeves.
Farrell will star as the villain Penguin in the upcoming DC movie. Reeves took to Twitter to confirm the news. Postin a gif of Colin Farrell, he wrote, “Wait — is that you, #Oz ?”
Oz refers to Penguin’s real name, Oswald Cobblepot, which might be why Reeves mentioned the nickname.
Robert Pattinson has taken over the cape of Batman from Christopher Bale and Ben Affleck. While Zoe Kravitz will star as Catwoman opposite him. Andy Serkis will play Bruce Wayne’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. The star-studded cast also includes Paul Dano as The Riddler and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon.
The upcoming Batman movie is a new take on the superhero. Creator Matt Reeves wants to bring a more grounded Batman to the forefront. He is known for his other movies such as Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.”
The Batman will release on June 25, 2021.
