Well, that was a close one! Pegasus Airline Flight Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway landing a few feet away from the Black Sea.
Pegasus airline is a low-cost Turkish airline. The flight was flying from Ankara, the capital of Turkey, and was scheduled to land at the Trabzon Airport.
However, the landing suffered a little detour. The passenger plane somehow skidded off the runway and ended up on the muddy slope next to the runway.
The photographs reveal the plane in an inclined position with its rear area high in the air and the front staring directly at the Black Sea.
There were 162 passengers aboard on the local flight. And panic was created as the plane skid off the runway.
In an interview with Anadolu, a local news agency, one of the passengers, Fatma Gordu stated, “We tilted to the side, the front was down while the plane’s rear was up. There was panic; people shouting, screaming.”
All of the passengers and crew were escorted out of the plane safely.
The airline issued an official statement and said, “All 162 passengers, two pilots, and four cabin crew have been disembarked safely from the aircraft. There has been no loss of life or injury to anyone on-board.”
Investigations are underway to uncover the reason behind the adventurous landing. The airport was also shut down for a while after the incident occurred.
The governor of Trabzon, Mr. Yucel Yavuz, stated, “We’ve taken all necessary measures. We will reopen the airport to airport traffic as soon as possible.”
Authorities still haven’t uncovered the reason behind the landing incident. The airport, however, has been reopened now.
People also tweeted about the incident and said, “Dangling-A Revealed Miracle! Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft w/ 168 passengers & crew had a ‘runway…incident’ landing at Trabzon Airport, the airline stated on Sunday. Photos showed the aircraft on a muddy slope with its nose dangerously close to the Black Sea.”
Another one said, “Fully loaded Pegasus Airlines flight in Turkey. Officially this is called a ‘runway excursion incident’ which in plain English is ‘Fu*k me, that was close.'”
Twitter followers are also calling the flight landing a miracle, as no one was hurt. One Twitter follower stated, “All on board the Pegasus Airlines flight escaped unharmed, with passengers saying it was a ‘miracle’ there were no deaths or injuries.”
Some people also took the chance to poke fun at the Airline’s pilots. One person posted, “Pegasus Airlines may need to get these guys back for a bit of a refresher course.”
While another sarcastically said, “Nailed the Landing.”
It was indeed a miracle that no one was hurt!
